Edward E. Praska, 99, of Cresco, IA formerly of Protivin, IA passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Regional Health Services of Howard County.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Nick March officiating. Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Cemetery Protivin. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home 404 North Elm Street, Cresco, Iowa, with a wake service held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home in Protivin.

Edward Ernst Praska was born September 5, 1914, son of Joseph and Emma (Infeld) Praska in Cresco, Iowa. He attended New Oregon #8 country school with Norman Borlaug. Edward was baptized and confirmed at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. After his father died in 1937, Edward helped his mother keep up the family farm. On June 14, 1942, Edward was united in marriage to Mary Humpal in Calmar, Iowa. Together they spent their lives farming until Edward turned 80 years old. Farming was in Edward’s blood; he loved being out with the livestock and checking the land. The farm was sold in 1996, but he continued to live there until 1999 when he moved into town. After moving into Cresco, Edward enjoyed reading and the city life.

Edward is survived by his daughter, Darlene Praska, of Cresco, IA; brother, Raymond (Cecelia) Praska of Cresco, IA; niece, Patricia (William) Roney of Decorah, IA; and his dog, Peanut and cat, Joey.

His wife, Mary and sister, Martha, preceded him in death.
