J.E. "Jack" Betts Funeral Services Held February 24

Funeral services were held at the Bradley Funeral home Thursday afternoon for John Elmer "Jack" Betts, 79, of Cresco, who died February 24.

Mr. Betts, who had entered the Cresco hospital January 30, was transferred to the Waterloo Schoitz hospital for surgery February 3.Complications developed, and he died in the hospital.

Conducting the funeral services was the Rev. Paul Somerville, pastor of the Cresco Methodist church. Burial was in the Oak Lawn cemetery.

Mr. Betts, son of Mr. and Mrs. Asha Betts, was born in Cresco November 22, 1884. When he was a boy his parents moved to Admire, Kansas. He later returned to Iowa where he married Susan Morris of Decorah.

Mr. and Mrs. Betts became the parents of a daughter, Mrs. Tino (Goldie) Fuentz of San Margarita, California. Mrs. Betts died March 27, 1929.

Mr. Betts farmed for a number of years and was also owner of a butcher shop in Cresco. He later was employed by the Milwaukee railroad, a position he held for 19 years before retiring. Following retirement from the railroad, he was employed as a meat cutter for the locker plant and later did odd jobs.

He was married to May Willomina Pecinovsky, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph W. Pecinovsky of near Protivin, in the Nashua Little Brown church September 28, 1932.

Surviving Mr. Betts are his wife, May, a daughter, Mrs. Goldie Fuentz, and eight grandchildren, besides 17 great-grandchildren.

There are also two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Kessler of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Mrs. George Keckler of Council Grove, Kansas, and a brother, William.

Preceding Mr. Betts in death were four sisters and two brothers, including Edwin and Anna Opal, who died in infancy, and Rose, Phoebe, Mattie and Walter.
