DIED.

BALLARD.--At the residence of F. J. Mead, in Cresco, September 30, 1879, Wm. Ballard, aged 56 years, 7 months and 8 days.

The deceased was born in Carroll, Chautauqua county, New York. His home, except for about two years residing in Dubuque county, was either in Warren county, Penn., or Chautauqua county, N. Y., until his removal to this county in 1868. In all the parts of the country where he has resided he has well and faithfully performed his duty as a man, a friend, a neighbor and citizen, enjoying the confidence, respect and esteem of his fellow men. His health the past few years has been poor, at times suffering severely from weakness and bleeding at the lungs. About two years since he became afflicted with an aggravated form of kidney disease which was the immediate cause of his decease.

In 1846 he married Mary Jane Taylor in the town of Busti, New York. Happily together they journed the path of life, until fourteen months since she crossed the mystic river, whither he has gone. He leaves a brother, some years his senior, at Farmington, Warren county, Penn., and two sisters at and near Cresco, also two sons and a daughter, all residing here, and who have the comfort of feeling that they did all that human aid could to alleviate his sufferings.
