Clement (Clem) Joseph Smith was born November 13, 1934, in Howard County son of Clem and Mabel (Tierney) Smith. He grew up on the family farm and attended Lourdes school through the 8th grade. He then continued to farm full time and help with raising his brothers and sisters. In the fall of 1957 Clem met the love of his life (his red-haired lady) Judy Kreitinger. On April 6, 1958, they were engaged and then married on September 23, 1958. They started their life together in a trailer on the family farm near Lourdes where they both helped his mom with the farm, and Clem’s brothers and sisters. On January 1, 1962 they moved to a farm south of Schley where they have lived ever since.

Clem’s passion was farming. He lived and breathed it until his dying day. Clem also enjoyed golfing, camping, bowling, dancing/square dancing, card club, snowmobiling, collecting toy tractors, and traveling. Clem really liked to go south to Texas every winter and spend some time in Mexico. He enjoyed attending as many events as he could that his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were involved in. Most of all, he loved to spend time with family and friends. Clem served on the board of directors at Cresco Bank and Trust from 1982-2007, and he was a Knights of Columbus member reaching the 3rd Degree. He was diagnosed with Leukemia in April of 2013.
