Celesta M. Praska, 81, of Protivin, IA passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Cresco Care Center.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Nick March officiating. Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Cemetery Protivin. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 22, 2013, at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home 123 North Main St. in Protivin, Iowa, with a wake service held at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Celesta Marie Havel was born on June 4, 1932, the daughter of Lewis and Leona (Moravetz) Havel. She attended the rural country school and graduated from Rudolphinum High School in 1951. On August 25, 1952, Celesta was united in marriage to Richard William Praska, son of William and Rose (Riha) Praska at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. They made their home on the Praska family farm where they were blessed with four children.
Celesta was active on the farm, helping with chores, mowing lawn and always planted a vegetable garden. She enjoyed playing cards, baking, listening to polka music and traveling, with the highlight visiting the Czech Republic in 1998. Celesta and Richard enjoyed participating and attending parades and car shows. She was a lifelong member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Rosary Society, a member of the Czech Choir and served on the Czech Days Quilt Committee for years. Celesta especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Celesta is survived by four children: Steve (Barb) Praska and Sheldon (Mary) Praska both of Cresco, Sue (Gary) Panos of Protivin and Shawn (Sandy) Praska of Cedar Falls, IA; six grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, her brother Don Havel and her parents.
