MRS. M. E. LAPPIN

Helen Jones Lappin, daughter of John and Sarah Jones, was born in Oakdale Township, Howard County, Iowa, on April 13, 1877.

She received her elementary education in a rural school in Oakdale township, graduated from LeRoy High School and Perry Norman in Cresco, Iowa. She taught school for one year in Oakdale District No. 4.

On September 22, 1897, she and Marvin Lappin were united in marriage by Rev. Russell Jones of the Presbyterian church of Le Roy.

Eight children were born to this union: Robert Lappin, LeRoy, Mrs. Merwin (Ruth) Noble, Riceville, Iowa, Dale Lappin, Cedar, Iowa, Mrs. DeLloyd (Lois) Malcomson, Burbank, Calif., Leon Lappin, Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Vernon Harlow (Margaret), deceased, Mrs. Morey Lane (Gwendolyn), Sunnyvale, Calif., and Ted Lappin, Long Beach, Calif.

Their married life was spent on their farm in Oakdale township until their retirement in 1930 after which they spent most of 12 years in Long Beach, Calif. Upon returning in 1942 they made their home in LeRoy where they were residing at the time of Mrs. Lappin's death.

At the time of her passing, Mrs. Lappin was active in the Woman's Relief Corps of LeRoy, holding the office of Chaplain.

After an illness of about five months she passed away on the evening of May 30th, 1961, age 84 years, 44 days.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Margaret Harlow.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Marvin; a brother, Lyman Jones of Modesto, Calif.; three daughters; four sons; 24 grandchildren; and 45 great-grandchildren.

She was a devoted wife and mother and found her greatest joy in her home, her family, and in doing for others. Her many friends knew her as a quiet but understanding person and in her quiet way believed and trusted in her maker.

Funeral services were held on June 2nd, from the First Presbyterian Church with the pastor, Rev. G. Barnitt officiating. Dale and Joe Noble, grandsons, rendered vocal numbers.

Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Riceville, Iowa. Casket bearers were grandsons Garth Lappin, Royal Lappin, Harlan Noble, Russell Noble, Douglas Lappin and Robert Eastvold.
