Grace Soukup age 97, of Protivin, IA, died on Friday, June 28, 2013 at Wellington Place in Decorah.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 124 N. Main St., Protivin, IA, with Rev. Daniel Knipper presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call after 9:30 at the church on Wednesday morning.

Grace Kathryn (Hruska) Soukup was born on September 29, 1915, in Winneshiek County, near Protivin, Iowa, the daughter of Mike and Elizabeth “Lizzie” (Haskovec) Hruska. Grace attended Lincoln #4 Country School and Holy Trinity Catholic School in Protivin. She was united in marriage to Arnold Joseph Soukup on April 27, 1936, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Together they farmed near Ridgeway for many years and attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. While on the farm, Grace worked alongside her husband farming. She enjoyed taking care of her chickens and ducks. She was a wonderful cook and baker; making delicious kolaches and cream puffs for all. She and Arnold enjoyed dancing to Polkas and traveling. In 1981, they and moved to Protivin and she was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Rosary Society. Grace was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and loved her family.

Grace is survived by her daughter: Pat (David) Bouska, Ridgeway, IA. Two granddaughters: Chanda (Lance) Mooney, Marion, IA; Kara (Kevin) Koch, Wellington, FL; and one grandson: Casey (Laurie) Bouska, Durant, IA. Five great grandchildren: Lexi and Jacob Mooney, Sophia, T.J. and Nicole Koch. Six nieces and nephews: Elaine (Carroll) Doherty, Rita (Rick) Vettraino, Kenny (Norma) Carolan, Clifford (Judy) Carolan, Randy (Ellen) Carolan, and Mark (friend, Ruth) Carolan.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents: Mike and Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Haskovec) Hruska. Her husband: Arnold Soukup (Oct. 8, 1999). One brother-in-law: Herman (Elvira) Soukup. One sister-in-law: Helen (Fred) Carolan. Three nephews: Walter, Roger, and Stanley Carolan. One great niece: Dawn Doherty.
