Mrs. Clara Anna Haberly was born Feb. 26, 1880, in Howard county, Ia. She lived her early life and received her education here. In September 1897, she married Charles Frederick Haberly. This union was blessed with five children, four daughters and one son: Gladys Anna, Lucile Louise, Anna Henrietta, Kathryn Marie and son Fred. Mrs. Haberly lived with her husband and family on the Haberly farm in New Oregon township from the time of marriage until 1904. Then they moved to Decorah where Mr. Haberly was in the implement business until September 20, 1914 when the husband preceded his wife in death.
The widow remained in Decorah until September 1920, and then moved to Cresco. In 1931 she returned to Decorah to live with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sellman and to help care for them until death called them. In 1936 she moved back to Cresco. She died suddenly April 9th at her home at 521 Third Avenue east, having attained an age of 56 years 1 month and 13 days.
Those who mourn her untimely death are the children: Mrs. Gladys Meyrick of Chicago; Mrs. Lucille Knorr, Anna Henrietta Haberly, Mrs. Kathryn Marie Schimming, all of Decorah; Charles Fred Haberly of Cresco; five grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services were held at the home of the son Fred in New Oregon township at two o'clock Saturday afternoon. Burial was in the Decorah cemetery. The Rev. L. W. Moench, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran church, officiated.
