SUDDEN DEATH.
Mr. John Harlow one of the early settlers of Howard county, and we believe its first sheriff died very suddenly at Prairie du Chien on Monday morning. He was on his way to Cresco to visit his son John, having previously visited his children in the state of New York, and was taken with a sudden attack of heart disease, of which he has been subject of late years as we learn resulting in death in a few hours. His remains were brought to Cresco on Tuesday and deposited in the New Oregon Cemetery. We knew him as a friend and an honorable man and a good citizen. Some fourteen years ago he left his farm on the old Decorah road two miles southeast of New Oregon for the gold fields of the mountains and of the Pacific Coast. To what extent fortune smiled upon his labors in that field we are not advised. With the friends who had anticipated a joyous meeting of the father after many years of separation, we deeply sympathise.{sp}
