Funeral services for Jesse O. Stevens, 89, of Bonair were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 10 at the United Methodist church in Cresco. The Rev. Thomas A. Woodin officiated with burial in Phillips cemetery in Bonair. Bradley-Lindstrom Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He died June 7 at the Lutheran hospital in LaCrosse.

Jesse Oren Stevens, son of Oren and Nora Stevens was born in Freeport, Iowa on Sept. 26, 1895. He lived in Granger, Minn., Kendalville and the past 47 years at Bonair. During those years he farmed and was in the business of buying and selling livestock.

On Sept. 11, 1919, Jesse married Edith Grabau in Decorah. They became the parents of eight children.

Jesse served in France during World War 1. He was a member of the American Legion and was the oldest member of the Bonair United Methodist church, having been a member for 46 years.

Survivors include six children; Gerald of Bonair, Mrs. Zona Darrah of Waverly, Mrs. Carol Whynacht of Rochester, Minn., Mrs. Janet Hyberger of Cedar Falls, Mrs. Martha Loquai of Owatanna, Minn. and Jesse Stevens, Jr. of Palentine, Ill.; 17 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

His parents, his wife, Edith, a son, James, a daughter, Ardith, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
