Memorial Services for Lester Phillips
Lester James Phillips, 71 of Mountain Home, AK, a former Howard county resident, died March 25, 1988 in Fulton Hospital in Salem, AK. A memorial service was held March 29 at Kirby Funeral Home in Mountain Home with a graveside service on March 31 at Phillips cemetery at Bonair, Iowa.
Lester James Phillips was born Sept. 3, 1916 at Bonair, the son of Ulysses Grant and Mary Phillips. He attended school in Howard county and then went to Waterloo where he was employed at John Deere for 30 years. He married Ruth Valley in Waterloo on October 25, 1947. They were the parents of two sons. Following his retirement, they moved to Arkansas.
Survivors are his two sons: Ray Phillips and James Phillips, both of Helena, Montana, a stepson Jerry L. Wallace of Waterloo and two step-daughters Marian Carpenter of Waterloo and Dorothy Berend of Mountain Home, AK; 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters, a step-daughter and two grandchildren.
