Death at Maple Leaf

This community was shocked last Sunday to learn of the death of Mr. August C. Lauck, son of Mr. and Mrs. August Lauck of near Maple Leaf. The young man was taken ill Friday evening with acute appendicitis. An operation was performed Sunday forenoon but the appendix had broken.

This death is particularly hard on the parents who suffered the loss of a son, Edwin, in the war. August was married on the 27th of last December to Miss Freida Groth. They had built a fine new house and were just putting the finishing touches to it and expected to move in the following Monday.

George Evans was painting the interior of the new house and finished up Friday. He said that Mr. Lauck helped around with the work as usual and no one noticed that he made any complaint of not feeling well. Friday evening he was taken ill and rapidly grew worse until the end.

The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the German Lutheran church at Maple Leaf. – Elma New Era.
