Death of Godlove Bouska

Godlove J. Bouska died suddenly at his home 7˝ miles southwest of Cresco Saturday morning, Aug. 19, 1933. He was 61 years old. Mr. Bouska had been a sufferer of heart trouble for two and one-half years but of late had been feeling unusually well, especially since his critical illness during March, when it was feared that he could not recover. He was about the home as usual Friday and about four o’clock Saturday morning had been up in his room. He passed away sometime between that time and five o’clock when the family arose and discovered his lifeless body.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 o’clock Monday morning at Holy Cross church at Schley, the Rev. Father Skluzacek, pastor of the church officiating at the Solemn Requiem High Mass, assisted by the Rev. Father Hradecky, pastor of Holy Trinity church of Protivin. Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church.

A coincidence in the Bouska family in their association with Holy Cross church is that the funeral of Mr. Bouska was the first to be held in the church and he was the first person buried in the adjoining cemetery; the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Bouska’s daughter, Helen, to Emil Praska was the first marriage ceremony performed there, and the baptism of their grandson, Alfred, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Bouska of New Oregon township was the first baptismal ceremony in the church.

Godlove J. Bouska was born Sept. 7, 1872, at Ft. Atkinson. He was a son of Frank and Barbara Bouska. He was married to Miss Josephine Mrachek in Protivin June 21, 1888. To this union four children were born, all of whom survive. They are Wm. J. and Arthur at home; Alfred of New Oregon township and Helen, Mrs. Emil Praska, of New Oregon township.

He is also survived by two brothers and three sisters: George and Theo. Bouska of Protivin; Mrs. Lizzie Slobiska of Calmar; Mrs. Joe Puffer of Conover and Mrs. Arthur Mrachek of Cresco. His parents, one sister and two brothers preceded him in death. The sister and brothers were Mrs. Charles Phillips of Conover, John, Charles and Frank.

Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. Bouska’s uncle and wife Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Bouska of Wilmar, Minn.; uncle Martin Bouska, Waucoma, Ia.; and aunt Mrs. Andrew Herold of Spillville.

Mr. Bouska was a man of high standing in the communities where he has lived, the large attendance at the funeral attesting to the esteem in which he was held. Father Skluzacek preached a very impressive sermon and the service was comforting to the bereaved family. He had lived on the farm where he died the past thirteen years having moved there from a farm near Chester.
