Perry services held Tuesday
Funeral Services for Thomas Perry were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 23, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco, with interment in the Howard Center Cemetery. Rev. Bruce M. Hobert presided. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Thomas Perry, age 58, died Friday, September 19, 1997 at his home in rural Lime Springs.
Thomas Russell Perry was born August 22, 1939 in Cresco, the son of Chester and Phyllis (Volkman) Perry. He was baptized on October 29, 1939 and confirmed on April 3, 1955 at the United Methodist Church in Cresco. He attended Howard Center # 5 rural school through eighth grade and graduated from Cresco High School in 1958.
Besides farming, with his parents in rural Lime Springs, he worked for Keune Construction for a short time. He entered the Army in 1962 and served for two years. He trained at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and was stationed at Baumholder, Germany. He returned to the home farm in 1964. He drove school bus for the Howard Winneshiek school system for a short time.
On June 3, 1966 he married Sharon Von Helmst at Lake City, MN. Tom farmed most of his life and was involved with several agricultural organizations including being a director on the Howard County Farm Bureau and C & H Farm Service Co. Boards. He was an officer in both the Howard County Beef and Pork Associations and was a Howard Center Township trustee.
A year after his surgery for cancer, he took the Hospice training course and became a Hospice Volunteer.
He is survived by his wife Sharon; two sons: Scott of Forest City and Craig of Iowa City; his mother, Phyllis of Cresco; and one sister, Carol Burnham of Rochester.
He was preceded in death by his father, Chester Perry in 1996.
