Mrs. Olena Putnam
Mrs. Olena Putman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Kelson, was born in July, 1850, in Vic Saagen, Norway. She came with her parents to Ridgeway in 1867. Later she made her home in Minneapolis and then returned to Ridgeway to care for her aged parents.
She was united in marriage with Charles H. Putnam by the Rev. Nelson of Ridgeway in 1907, and lived from that time on until her death in Cresco. Her husband preceded her in death Aug. 2, 1928. The Rev. F. Engelhart officiated at his funeral.
Mrs. Putnam reached the age of 87 years when the good Lord called her. Of these years about forty were spent in caring for the aged and ill. Her summons came Saturday, July 3, 1937 at four o’clock.
Her passing is mourned by one brother, John Kelson of Minneapolis; one daughter, four grandchildren, Edward and Leonard Malek, Mrs. Jerome Jones and Mrs. Frank Doubek, all of Cresco and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at two o’clock Monday afternoon at the Bradley Funeral Home. Burial was in the Lincoln cemetery near Ridgeway. The Rev. L. W. Moench, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran church, officiated.
Relatives in attendance from a distance were Mrs. S. Haukedahl, Mrs. C. R. Evans, Mrs. Lena Kehl, Mrs. H. M. Johnson and son, all of Mason City; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Williams, Mrs. Amelia Birquist, Mrs. Josephine Caron, all of Minneapolis; Ida Kelson, Dr. Kelson, Carl Kelson, all of New Hampton; Anna Johnson and Alfred Johnson of Calmar.
