EARLY ALBION PIONEER DIED LAST FRIDAY
August Walter, Aged 81, Succumbs After Long Illness
Mr. August Walter, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Walter, was born at Moschutz, Germany, July 4, 1851 and departed this life Oct. 21. 1932, age - 81 years, 3 months and 17 days.
At the early age of 16 he came with his parents from Germany to Ministree, Michigan, and from there, at the age of 24, came to Cresco, la., where he has lived all his life.
On July 22, 1877 he was married to Amelia Knuth, to this happy union there were born five children. They lived on their farm north of town until 1907 when they moved to Cresco, Iowa where they lived ever since.
Mr. Walter has been a member of the Evangelical Church for about 60 years, and has served with real joy and faithfulness in various official capacities, being the senior member of the Trustee Board at the time of his decease.
Surviving him are his wife and companion, three daughters, Mrs. John Keune of Austin, Minn., Mrs. H. A. Miller and Mrs. Albert Bigalk of Cresco, Iowa. One daughter, Rozetta and an infant son, Leonard, preceded him in death. There are eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild, Shirley Crouch. One grandson, Samuel, whom they reared from childhood, endeared himself to them so he loved him as his own son.
The family will miss a loving and devoted husband and father, the church a loyal and faithful member, the community a kindly friend and neighbor.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon from the Evangelical Church by his pastor, Rev. Park E. Miller, assisted by Rev. W. A. Schlesselman, a former pastor. The Greenleafton male quartet rendered very effectively "Some Day We'll Understand" and ''Some Day, Some Time" with Mrs. Vernon Miller as the pianist, as did
also th____________________________dering "I'm a Pilgrim", Miss _______Aegerter at the piano. The 23rd Psalm and Rev. 14:13 and Job 19:25 were used as a basis of our meditation.The floral tributes were very lovely and profuse and the services were made available to the large number in attendance through the loud speaker system installed by Mr. Bradley.
The pall bearers were nephews of the deceased as follows: John, Harry, Louis, Leonard, Ernest and Herbert Walter. The body was laid to rest in the family lot in the Cedar Hill cemetery.

Steinke and daughter Evelyn and son Edward, all from Eau Claire, Wis; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Albright and son Vernon and Mr. George Steinke from Augusta, Wis; Mr. Harold Moon of Monona, Iowa; Gust Walter, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Phein and Mr. Schoenfelt from Alta Vista, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. John Baumaster, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Bigalk, Mr. and Mrs. John Bigalk from Harmony, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. John Keune and granddaughter Shirley, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Reuter and Roberta from Austin, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Walter Keune and Mrs. Grobe from Spring Valley, Minn.; Rev. and Mrs. W. A. Schlesselman, daughter Ruth and son Paul from Laurel, Iowa.
