Dr. E.K. Allen was born on May 15, 1908 in Cresco, Howard county, Iowa, the son of E.H. and Maude Rose (Kuder) Allen. He was baptized into Christian faith on December 20, 1917 at the Cresco Methodist Church. He was educated in the Cresco schools and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1931 with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.
For two years Dr. Allen was associated in dental practice with his father in Cresco. In 1933 he came to St. Ansgar and established a practice lasting until his retirement in June 1997. Dr. Allen served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. he confirmed his Christian faith on January 9, 1938 at First Lutheran Church, Saint Ansgar.
Dr. Allen was ably assisted in his dental practice by his wife, the former Eleanor Evans. They met when both were freshmen in Cresco High School and their courtship continued until marriage on June 15, 1934. They were blessed to share nearly 67 years of marriage. God blessed their marriage with one daughter, Marveen.
Dr. Allen was a multi-talented man. Whether crafting gold jewelry or building a two story house in the Canadian wilderness, his hands and mind were always busy. He believed that one's talents should be used to serve others. He took great pride in the dental work he provided to over 6000 patients during his years in practice.
Dr. Allen died on March 9, 2001 at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Allen, his daughter Marveen Minish (and husband Robert), granddaughter Roberta Moeschter (and husband James), and a great-granddaughter Nicole Moeschter. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Esther Schuldt, and nieces and nephews.
