VIOLA.
Gerald W. "Gerry" McCarville, 68, of Viloa, died Monday July 7, 2003, in University Hospitals, Iowa City, following a courageous battle with leukemia. Services 10:30 a.m. Thursday, St. Isdore Catholic Church in Springville.
Burial: Springville Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a wake service beginning at 6:30p.m.

Survivors include his wife Sherry; daughter, Stacy Shanks and husband Jeremiah of Decorah; son, Wayne McCarville and wife Jill of Kendallville, Iowa, stepson, Scott Walton and wife Teresa of Anamosa; two stepdaughters, Meg Busch and husband Tom of Marion and Lori Tracy and husband Mike of Seattle, Wash.; three brothers, Harold and wife Dorothy of Des Moines; Irvin and wife Marian of Marion and Charley and wife Ardith of Brownsboro, Texas; two grandchildren, Jennifer McCarville and Missy Mayer; two stepgrandchildren, Andrew and Matthew Walton; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gerald was born Aug. 29,1934, in Howard County, Iowa to Raphel and Hazel Eldridge McCarville. After graduation from Cresco High School he farmed with his parents until he was called to serve in the U.S. Army in April 1957. After serving two years with the 47th Infantry in Fort Lewis, Wash., he returned home and upon the retirement of his parents, assumed managment of the McCarville home farm which was settled in 1869 by his great-grandparents Phillip and Elizabeth Woods McCarville.

In 1962 he married Marian Aegler and they had a son Wayne and daughter Stacy. Gerald and Marian were divorced in 1991.
On Dec. 28, 1993, he married Sharon "Sherry" Largent Walton in Cresco, Iowa, and they moved from the McCarville farm to Viola. He then was employed in the mailroom at MCI in Cedar Rapids and lated worked as a substiture mail carrier in nearby Springville.
