WELL KNOWN CHESTER TOWNSHIP FARMER DEAD

Major Laws was born in Feltwell, Norfolkshier, England. June 24, 1844, and died April 6, 1916, at the age of 71 years. He came to America with his parents when twelve years old, lived one year in Wisconsin then coming to Howard County, Iowa, having lived at the present home in Chester for 36 years.

He was married June 26, 1871, to Adalaid Nye of Chester. To this union were born thirteen children, who are all living except one daughter who died in infancy. The others all being present at this time except Clarence of Melstone, Mont. He leaves besides his wife and children, five grandchildren, one brother, Mr. Laws of Greenfield, Mo., and Mrs. Eliza Thompson of Austin, Minn.

The funeral was conducted from the home by Rev. Robbins of LeRoy and Rev. Olson of Chester. Those from away who attended were Mr. and Mrs. B. Harper, Mrs. W. Babcock and Mrs. E. Lampher of Wells, Minn.; Mrs. Eliza Thomson, Ransome and Hazel of Austin, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Upcraft of Blooning Prairie, Minn.; Mr. W. A. Nye of Salem, S. D.; I. L. Eaton, R. A. Register of Cresco; Mrs. John Price of Lime Springs and a number of relatives and friends from LeRoy.
