Married.
A very interesting event took place three miles northwest of Lime Springs, Iowa, on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 20, 1919 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Searles when their youngest daughter Miss Mildred Madge Searles was united in marriage with Claude Ray King, second son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed King of Lime Springs.
Preceding the appearance of the bridal party a piano and violin duet “I Love You Truly” was rendered by Miss Merle Sanborn and Miss Anna Howland. At 3 o’clock, to the strains of Mendalssohn’s wedding march, played by Miss Sanborn, the bridal party approached, the groom accompanied by his brother Harold King, and the bride accompanied by Miss Ruth Howland.
The bride was attired in a most becoming gown of Copenhagen blue taffeta and carried a beautiful bouquet of bride’s roses; the bridesmaid in a dainty gown of old rose and blue voile, also carrying a bouquet of roses; the manly groom in regulation attire, and the groomsman in uniform all standing in front of a magnificent background of ferns presented an unusually beautiful and impressive picture which will linger long in the memories of the 25 immediate relatives and friends in whose presence this marriage was solemnized.
The officiating clergyman, Rev. G. M. Shoemaker, used the impressive double ring ceremony and pronounced the words which made this happy couple man and wife.
After congratulations and best wishes all sat down to a sumptuous wedding dinner and later the bridal party drove to Chester where Mr. and Mrs. King left on the east bound passenger for Chicago where their honeymoon will be spent.
The bride’s going away costume was a dark brown suit with becoming hat of blue and brown.
The large number of beautiful and useful gits of which they were the recipients will testify in some degree to the estimation in which these excellent young people are held.
The bride, who has lived in this locality all her life, is known and loved as a young woman of sweet and amiable disposition and beautiful character, while the husband of her choice is one of Howard county’s very finest young men, and both belong to most estimable families.
After April 1 Mr. and Mrs. King will be at home on the farm which the groom has operated for some time past near Lime Springs.
Their many friends wish for them a long, prosperous and happy wedded life.
