MARRIED,
YOUNG-MCWILLIAMS.
The home of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Young at 129 First Ave. East, was the scene of a very beautiful ceremony on Wednesday evening, June 5, when their daughter Mary Alice was united in marriage to Mr. Emmet Dudley McWilliams of Chester, Iowa.
The rooms were elaborately decorated in pink and green. In the living room were masses of bride roses, while clusters of larch depended gracefully from the tops of the doorways. The den adjoining was festive in honeysuckles and potted plants.
At eight o’clock the strains of Mendelssohn’s wedding march, played by Miss Reba Counselman, heralded the approach of the bridal party. Preceded by the officiating clergyman, Rev. E. G. Copeland, the couple took their place in the reception room, standing between pyramids of Boston ferns which were interspersed with cream fleur-de-lis. The bride’s gown was of beautiful silk bisque georgette crepe over silk, embroidered, and trimmed with pearl beads and small velvet June roses. She carried a bouquet of bride roses and maiden hair ferns, caught with long and short loops of white satin ribbon.
Immediately following the impressive ring service, the dining room doors were thrown open and the bride and groom proceeded to the bride’s table where covers were laid for five, the bride’s father and mother and the groom’s mother being seated with the happy young couple. The decorations consisted of a bank of pink roses in the center, with pink ribbons stretching from the electrolier to the four corners of the table. Crystal candlesticks with pink tapers, and pink shades over the electric lights added to the beauty of the scene. Small tables, similarly decorated, were placed for the other guests. The favors were in the form of two tiny white hearts, joined with pink bows, and bearing the monograms of the bride and groom in pink. A two course luncheon, daintily prepared by Mrs. G. E. Champlin, was pleasingly served by the Misses Eunice Davenport and Hazel Burr, two members of the bride’s Sunday School class. The victrola played softly during the luncheon hour.
After the tables were removed, congratulations were extended and Mr. and Mrs. McWilliams soon slipped away upon their honeymoon, which will be spent in Minneapolis and St. Paul. The bride’s traveling gown was of midnight blue taffeta silk with tan boots and gloves to match. They will receive their friends after August first at Chester, Ia., where a prettily furnished home awaits them. The large array of beautiful wedding gifts will lend a distinguishing feature to the new home.
Mr. McWilliams has been a banker in Chester for fifteen years and has many friends who will welcome him and his charming wife to their midst. The bride was born and grew to womanhood in Cresco. Her talents have been generously bestowed in the various social and religious interests of the community, and her admiring friends unite in wishing her much happiness in her new home.
The out of town guests were Mrs. McWilliams, mother of the groom, Mr. and Mrs. Thoma and son Arthur of Postville, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. C. T. McWilliams of Chester, Iowa. Only immediate relatives and close friends of the bride and groom were in attendance at the occasion.
