MARRIED.
BARTELS-BAYER
Wednesday afternoon Nov. 28th, ’17, at 1:30 o’clock at the German Lutheran Church at Maple Leaf, Ia., B. E. Bartels and Miss Meta Bayer were the principals in a pretty wedding at which ninety invited guests were in attendance. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Aug. Matthias. To the strains of the Lohengrin wedding march played by Miss Rosa Bartels, niece of the groom, the bridal party proceeded down the aisle. Otto Brandenburg, cousin of the groom and Miss Emma Bayer, sifter{sic} of the bride, were the attendants.
The bride’s gown was of white silk crepe de chine with draperies of silk lace and beads, and she carried a shower bouquet of bride’s roses, and wore a veil, caught with orange blossoms. The bridesmaid was also beautifully gowned in gray silk crepe de chine and she wore a bouquet of forget-me-nots.
Following the church services a reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents where an elaborate wedding feast was served. Visiting, music and games occupied the time until after midnight supper was served, after which the guests departed for home. The bride is the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Bayer, of Elma. There she grew to womanhood and is known to a large circle of friends and acquaintances with whom she has always been a favorite. She is a young lady who commands the respect of all who know her, and she possesses a charming personality and many accomplishments, one of which is efficiency as a housekeeper.
The groom is a young farmer of near Maple Leaf where he grew to manhood. His former home for three years was at Waverly, Ia., and he is a graduate of the Wartburg Teacher’s Seminary and Academy.
With this marriage two prominent young people have become united for life and their hosts of friends extend congratulations and best wishes for a happy future.
Mr. and Mrs. Bartels will be at home to their many friends after Dec. 25th on the groom’s farm near Riceville, Ia.
