Wedding Anniversary Celebrated.
On Saturday, Oct. 7, was the occasion of a surprise on Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bigalk by a large number of their neighbors and friends, the number of which were upwards of 125. The day was ideal; the weather was all that could be wished for.
At about 11:00 a. m. a large number of the party gathered at the home of Mr. Amil Keune and from there all drove in a body to the home of Mr. Bigalk. On arriving there it was found however that Mrs. Bigalk was at home alone. She was completely dumbfounded upon seeing the mob of people coming to her home, but was soon told what it all meant, when she surrendered completely to their wishes. Soon her son Willie, who was occupied not far away arrived, which relieved his mother to some extent. The husband who with the other two sons, Charles and Newton, had gone to Cresco, was soon informed of the situation by telephone and hurried back. The surprise to them, upon nearing home, to see so many rigs and people in the yard, is not so easily explained. It all was a complete surprise. All however soon recovered from the shock without any injury to anyone.
The ladies in the party took control of the house and did as they wished without asking any questions of Mrs. Bigalk. A bountiful dinner was soon prepared. The delicious bride’s cake of three stories in height had been baked by Mrs. Aug. Walter of Cresco, who is an expert in baking bride’s cakes.
The gathering was to celebrate the twenty-seventh anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Bigalk.
After all had partaken of the bounteous repast the happy couple took their places among their friends where the Rev. Schwab of Cresco gave a short talk and presented to them a purse of more than $15.00 collected to express to some extent the esteem in which they are held in the community.
Mr. Bigalk is a brother of Fred, John and Amil Bigalk, and Mrs. Wm. Keune, Mrs. John Burmaster and Mrs. Thed. Michel are his sisters. Mrs. Bigalk is a daughter of Grandma Kramer of Florenceville,
The afternoon was spent very pleasantly in visiting and chatting. In the evening the party disbanded and left for their homes wishing Mr. and Mrs. Bigalk many more years of happiness and success and feeling that the occasion was a success.
Mr. and Mrs. Bigalk heartily appreciate this expression of friendship to them and say that such gatherings are all right.
By one who was there.
