Silver Wedding at Elma.
On last Thursday evening, Nov. 24, 1910, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Deegan were very pleasantly surprised at their home in Elma, the occasion for the celebration being their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Deegan were invited out to 5 o’clock dinner at the D. J. O’Donnell home, and about 8:30 they re-eived a telephone message calling them home. When they arrived home they were met at the door by Rev. F. J, Gunn, who in a very neat little speech reminded them of their 25th wedding anniversary. Entering the house they were confronted by about 70 of their friends and relatives who then proceeded to spend a most enjoyable evening with the esteemed couple. The guests were entertained at progressive euchre, which all enjoyed to the utmost. Two prizes were given; the head prize, which was a beautiful silk coat-hanger, was won by Rev. A. N. Tibeau. The booby prize was won by Arthur Casey. A sumptuous four course supper was served to the guests at 10 o’clock.
In behalf of their many friends in Elma, Father Tibeau presented the couple with a silver set, consisting of a butter dish, fruit dish and bread plate. Besides this beautiful set, numerous presents from out-of-town friends were received by Mr. and Mrs. Deegan.
This worthy couple have lived in this vicinity for the past 20 years. The many friends who had the pleasure of helping them celebrate their silver wedding last Thursday evening, hope to have the pleasure of again helping them to celebrate their Golden Wedding, 25 years hence.
The out-of-town guests at the wedding were: Mr. and Mrs. Will Marr of New Haven, Mr. and Mrs. John Callahan from near Riceville, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Cashman from near Lowther, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Cashman and Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Cashman, Maurice O’Connor, a brother of Mrs. Deegan, Miss Zetta Deegan, of Dubuque, a sister of Mr. Deegan, and Misses Bonnie and Irene Sullivan of Farley.
