McGourty – Woods Marriage 1909

MARRIED.
Mr. John McGourty and Miss Mary Woods were united in marriage at the Church of Assumption, in Cresco, at eight o’clock last Tuesday morning, the 7th, by Rev. Father McCartey. The bride was attended by Miss Eunice Wanless and the groom by Mr. Thos. McGourty. During the ceremony the Ave Maria was sung by Mrs. C. C. O’Malley, accompanied by Mrs. Orvine McHugh, organist, and Miss Ruth Connolly violinist. The ladies also assisted the choir in the singing of the nuptial high mass.
A wedding breakfast was served at the home at 11:30, only the immediate relatives of the contracting parties being present.
The young couple left on the after¬noon train for Milwaukee and other points, and after their return will establish their home on a farm near Riceville owned by the groom.
The groom is a son of James McGourty, a well known resident of the vicinity of Elma, and the bride is a daughter of Patrick Woods, of Cresco, who has been reared to womanhood in this vicinity, and both the contracting parties have a wide circle of friends in the county who wish them the best that life can afford in health, happiness and success.
