Monday, January 15, 1906, at eleven o’clock a large company of relatives and friends gathered at the German Lutheran church of this place to be present at the solemnizing of the golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Halweg.
The church being decorated suitable for the occasion, to the strains of a march played by Rev. Casselman of Charles City, the couple attended by their children, Emil, John and Chas. Halweg, Mrs. Geo. Dell, followed by twenty-five grand children, and the relatives, entered the church, Rev. Pless officiating.
Their oldest daughter, Mrs. Chas. Kirschbaum of New York City was was({sic} unable to be present on account of the serious illness of her husband.
After congratulations all repaired to the hall where an elegant dinner was served to about three hundred and fifty guests. The afternoon was spent in vocal enjoyment and conversation and at five o’clock they began serving supper to the guests. The event was spent at cards and in dancing, the music being furnished by the Kakac orchestra. On account of the storm that had been raging most of the day, and at night the guests were compelled to stay until Tuesday noon when they all returned to their homes, happy, satisfied and rejoicing that the occasion is one that will long be remembered by the young as well as the old, and best of all they left Mr. and Mrs. W. Halweg in usual good health.
It was requested by them that no presents be brought, but a collection be taken for Orphan’s Home at Waverly, Iowa, which amounted to one hundred and five dollars.
