Golden Wedding-
Among the early settlers in Afton township in this county were Mr. and Mrs Carl Reckner. The first of August, 1902 they came from their present home at Alta Vista to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their marriage, at their old home where their son E. W. Reckner resides. All the children of the aged couple were present at this celebration. When Mr. and Mrs. Reckner arrived they were greeted by and marched to the house over a path of flowers strewn by five of their little grand children, Cora Kruger, Vina and Louisa Reckner, and Esther and Jennie Joens. The march was played by Mary E. Joens, a granddaughter of the venerable couple. Rev. M. Bruggemann of Elma held a short service, after which dinner was served to 125 who had come to help celebrate this golden anniversary. In the afternoon games and various amusements occupied the time and in the evening the younger members of the party spent a pleasant hour in dancing. The children of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Reckner are Mrs. Edgar Kruger, C. M. Reckner, Norcross, Minn., Joseph Reckner, Mrs. Peter Joens and E. W. Reckner and Mrs. H. Koust of Alta Vista, all of whom were present. Many beautiful and valuable presents were made to the venerable couple. M. E. J.
