Gillespie-Swenson Nuptials.
On Wednesday evening, the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Swenson was the scene of a very simple and pretty wedding, when Mr. Arthur D. Gillespie of Spencer, Iowa, and Miss Etta Swenson of this city were united in marriage, Rev. Holmes officiating. It was a very quiet affair the only ones present were the parents of both parties, the brothers and sisters of the bride, Miss Mary Gillespie, sister of the groom, Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Caward and Miss Lauraine Mead who acted as pianist for the occasion. It was the wish of the bride that the entire ceremony be performed to the soft accompaniment of music. To the strains of Mendelssohn’s Wedding March the contracting parties took their places under a bower of roses and smylax. The marriage service was said by Rev. Holmes during which “Oh! Promise Me,” was played, which was followed by the beautiful air of Narcissus while the company bestowed their congratulations. The bride was handsome in a beautiful dress of white satin brocade, and bouquet of bride’s roses. An elegant supper was served in the dining room. The decorations arranged by Mr. Wesley Swenson were very elaborate and beautiful.
The bride has lived in this city from childhood. She is much beloved and her many friends join in wishing her every happiness. During frequent visits here the groom has made many friends who think him worthy the prize he has won.
During the evening the Cresco Band serenaded the happy couple. Mr. and Mrs. Gillespie left on the 10:15 p. m. train for Dubuque and Chicago. They return here for a few days before leaving for Spencer, their future home.
