The friends of Mr. and Mrs. John Birtwhistle took them by surprise on the evening of Dec. 27th, by taking possession of their residence before they were aware of it. On being in-formed that it was their forty-third wedding Anniversary they quietly submitted and was held captive tor the evening, music, games and refreshments was the program for the evening, which was enjoyed by all untill late.
