TAFT—BECKER—At the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Fifleld, in Cresco, Wednesday, March 9th 1898 at 2:30, Mr. Alvin Taft, of Albion and Miss Eva L. Becker of Vernon Springs, were united in matrimony In the presence of a few of the relatives. Rev. T. H. Hendricks officiating.
On Friday evening a reception was given to the friends of the newly married couple at the pleasant Albion home of the groom's mother, Mrs. Mary Taft. When the company had all arrived the bride and groom appeared and received the congratulations and best wishes of those present.
The bride is one of the loveliest of our young ladies, generous, kind hearted and winsome, and greatly beloved by all who know her. The groom is one of Howard county’s finest young men, a person of sterling qualities and spotless integrity.
After an hour of pleasant conversation and music the company were invited to partake of a bounteous feast prepared for the occasion, following which was more music and the guests departed carrying with them the memory of a pleasant evening and leaving behind the best wishes for the future happiness of the young couple and many valuable and useful gifts among which were a set of chairs and supply table linen, Mrs. Mary Taft; rocker and glass set, Ruby Taft; berry set; Mr. and Mrs. G. Fifield; salt and pepper castor Georgy and May Fifield, water set, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Taft; set dishes. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Wells, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Clark, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Holcomb, Misses Hattie Holcomb, Cora Little. Messers O. J. Lofthus, Howard Holcomb; nickel plated tea pot and coffee pot, Mr and Mrs F Richards: flatirons, Miss Amy Watros; paper holder, Mr and Mrs Onev Bateman; set silver knives and forks, Misses Helen and Sylvia Ashley, Messrs George, Roy and Webb Richards and Will Ashley.
