The Silver Wedding Party to Mr. and Mrs. E. Gillett.

The first Marriage recorded in Howard County was that of Edmund Gillett and Helen M. Barbor, which occurred on the 21st day of February 1856, the marriage ceremony having been performed by the Rev. Mr. Helm just five-and-twenty years ago last Monday. In commemoration of that auspicious event on Monday last their numerous friends, male and female, might have been seen flitting to and fro, arranging for them, a suprise{sp} for that evening. Evening came, and a hundred or more assembled at the parlors of the Strother house and with Geo. R. Story, amply provided with the means to spread a feast, and equipped with suitable articles of table silver-ware. The surprise was complete, and in almost the twinkle of an eye after the first foot crossed the threshold, every part of the house was occupied y uninvited but very welcome quests. The Cresco Cornet Band did itself the credit of appearing on the ground and discoursing both without, and within the house, its sweetest strains. The presents consisted of a tea set of 4 heavy pieces, an elegant and valuable 5 bottle castor, cake dish, jelly dish and pickle castor, which upon the request of those present, and active in the surprise, was presented to Mr. and Mrs. Gillett, in their behalf, by the editor of the PLAIN DEALER, after which the Rev. A. S. McConnell, reunited in the bonds of matrimony those who had never been separated from its holy tie. After these ceremonies a splendid collation with hot coffee was served. Then after an evening of pure enjoyment their several guests bidding them a happy goodnight returned to their respective places of abode.
