Esther Rickelman, 97, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, died Friday, November 26, 2004, at the Pleasant Manor Care Center.

Visitation for Mrs. Rickelman will be held on Monday, November 29, beginning after 12 noon, at the Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel. The family will greet friends following the rosary. A funeral mass for Mrs. Rickelman will be held on Tuesday, November 30, at 10:00 a.m., at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, with Rev. Nick Adam officiating. Burial will be at Prairie Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

Esther was born on April 4, 1907, in West Burlington, Iowa, to Charles and Rosa Greve Johnson. She attended Flint River School. On February 10, 1947, she married Henry Rickelman in West Burlington, Iowa. He preceded her in death in January of 1992.

Esther grew up in West Burlington. She lived in Wapello, Iowa for four years before moving to rural Mt. Pleasant in 1951. Mrs. Rickelman was a homemaker. Along with taking care of her family, she helped her husband on their farm east of Mt. Pleasant. She had a large garden and enjoyed doing needle work. Mrs. Rickelman was a member of the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

Mrs. Rickelman is survived by one daughter, Rosemary and her husband John Scales of Sandy, Utah and two grandsons, Jason Scales of Puyallup, Washington and Jeffrey Scales of Knoxville, Tennessee. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband and parents, Mrs. Rickelman was preceded in death by two brothers Clyde Johnson and Leroy Johnson.
