Daniel Morely of Winfield

Winfield, Ia. July 16 - Daniel Morley was born in Washington, Pennsylvania, May 12, 1825, and died at his home in Winfield, Ia, July 15, 1915, aged 90 years, 2 months and three days. When he was four years of age the family moved to Wayne County, Ohio, where they resided for ten years, after which they came to Iowa, settling near Mt. Pleasant. In the spring of 1851 he removed to Scott township, near Winfield, Ia., where he improved a tract of land east of town and then his farm cornering with the southwest corner of Winfield, where he resided until about fifteen years ago, when he came to Winfield to make his home. June 23, 1852m he was married to Miss S.I. Myers in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Mrs. Eliza McGlade, Mrs. Ora Eddingfield, and John Morely, of Batavia, Ia., all of whom are present with their mother to follow the loved form to its last resting place and to cherish the memory of his pure and noble life. In addition, to them, he leaves one sister, Mrs. Mary F. Clough, of Ridgeway, Mo.; seven granchildren and three great grandchildren. He espoused the Christian life and united with the Presbyterian church, having been a faithful and exemplary member to the time of his death. His daily life exemplified all the Christian graces. No one was more universally loved by all who knew him. With not an enemy in the world, in love and charity with all, at peace with God and looking eagerly for the hour of his release, a noble and matured Christian spirit has gone to his long home. He was kind and gentle in spirit and all who knew him took note of himthat he had been with Jesus and learned of him. For him the grave has no defeat - "Death slew not him but he made of death a ladder to the skies," - for him death was simply laying aside of the limitations of the flesh, the merging of the deathless spirit into the beauty and blessedness of the eternal world. "Blessed in the sight of the son is the death of his saints." Our faith looks on beyond the narrow house to the eternal morning where now and forever his immortal spirit lives, in the fullness of life. We wait a little while in this earthly pilgrimage inspired by the cherished memories of his holy life and cheered by faith, we shall meet him again. The funeral services will take place from the Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock, in charge of Rev. J.L. Dool, pastor of the church.
