Mary Dorothy Wenger, 88, of Swedesburg, died at 5:45 PM Thursday, December 16, 1999 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. The funeral service was at 10:30 AM Monday, December 20 at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church, Wayland, with the Revs. Roger Farmer and Ruben Chupp officiating. Burial was in Sugar Creek Cemetery. Memorials have been established to Sugar Creek Home Missions of Pleasant Point Church Building Fund.

Mrs. Wenger was born October 1, 1911, the daughter of Henry and Mary Guth Roth. She married Emery Wenger on November 26, 1936 at Seward, Nebraska. She moved to Washington in her twenties and later to the Wayland area following her marriage. After retiring from the farm they moved to Swedesburg. Church was a very important part of her life and she was an active member of Sugar Creek Mennonite Church. Mary and her husband were ministers for many years at the Pleasant Point Community Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible Study groups. She was also a member of the Swedesburg Heritage Society.

Survivors include her husband; one son, David Wenger, Wayland; three daughters, Mildred Gingerich, North English; Beulah Steiner, Wooster, Ohio; Mary Headings, Wooster, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and five sisters.
