OBITUARY - WAYLAND NEWSPAPER
Thomas Dean Wenger, 81, of Muscatine died Saturday October 30, 2004 at the Muscatine Care Center. Graveside services were held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 3 at North Hill Cemetery in Wayland. Visitation was held from 4:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday November 2 at the George M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home in Muscatine. A memorial has been established for the Muscatine Senior Circle.
Mr. Wenger was born on August 16, 1923 in Wayland to Allen C and Izyel A. (Miller) Wenger. On June 24, 1949 he married Margaret Walters in West Liberty.
Mr. Wenger graduated from the University of Iowa in 1948. He was employed by Stanley Consulting for 25 years as a mechanical engineer. He was head of the Power Group and retired as vice president. He was head of engineering and maintenance department at GPC from 1963 to 1973.
Mr. Wenger was a World War II veteran. He served in the Army in the 727 Tractor Battalion in the Pacific Theater. He was of the Mennonite faith. He was a member of the BPO Elks Lodge 304 and the Elks Chanters, the Iowa Engineering Society, and a former member of the Jaycees. He was also a member of the Levy Commission for the city of Muscatine. He enjoyed fishing, boating, auto mechanics and traveling.
Mr. Wenger is survived by his wife, Margaret; two sons Tom A. Wenger of Wilton and Jeffrey P. Wenger and wife Betsy of Wauseon, Ohio; two daughters, Karen Ann Makon and husband, James, of West Des Moines and Susan L. Roelle and husband, Steve, of Muscatine. Six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one brother, Chris Wenger of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jack Wenger.
