OBITUARY - WAYLAND NEWS

East Peoria - Mahlon N. Miller, 95, of East Peoria, Illinois, died at 6:05 AM December 25, 1999 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria. He was born August 18, 1904 in Noble, to Amasa M. Miller and Katie Nebel. He married Esther A. Eigsti on September 10, 1929 in Morton. She died March 10, 1995 in East Peoria. He also was preceded in death by two sisters.

Surviving are three sons, Roger of Lacon, Don of Mineral, and Oris of Greenwood, Ind.; one daughter Janice (and Warren) Mahrer of Seattle, Washington; four brothers, Melvin (Peoria), Orie Manito, and Paul and Orval both of Wayland; three sisters, Leona (and Henry) Leichty, Susan (and Willis) Troyer and Lenore (Mrs. Oscar) all of Wayland; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He and his wife farmed for 33 years in Tazewell and Burlow counties. He sold furniture for Suter Office Furniture in Peoria for five years. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria. He also was a member of the County farm Bureau representing Gold Township. He was a Sunday School teacher and superintendent for many years. He was a regional supervisor of Republic Investors Insurance Company in East Moline. He graduated in 1963 from Dale Carnegie Course Series in Rock Island.

Services were held at 10 AM Tuesday, December 28 and Remmert Funeral Home with burial at Fondulac Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Lacon Rescue Squad and Willowsprings Mennonite.
