Funeral services of the late Emory Mathews was held Wednesday afternoon at two thirty from the First Methodist Church and were in charge of Rev. T.S. Pool. The Church was filled with the friends of this good man and an exceptional number were were here from different points away from Mt. Pleasant.
Emory Austin, son of Frank and Almeda Mathews was born in Henry County, Iowa, Feb. 27.1856 and passed away at the family residence near Oklahoma City, Okla., July 29, 1921 at the age of 65 years 5 months and 2 days. April 17, 1888 he was united in marriage with Miss Mattie Holland. To this union three daughters were born, Mrs. Mildred Townsend, Miriam Vera and Frances Farmer Mathews. Frances died at the age of 7 months. Beside his wife and two daughters, he is survived by his mother, 90 years old, a resident of Mt. Pleasant, four sisters and two brothers. He united with the Methodist Episcopal Church 28 years ago.
In 1905 he sold his farm four mile east of Mt. Pleasant and moved to Oklahoma, where the family has since resided.
Internment was at Forest Home
