DEATH OF A PIONEER
Benjamin Heater Passes Away At Ripe Age of 93.

Benjamin Heater was born, February 10, 1821, in Brackston [Sic:Braxton] County, West Virginia. He moved with his parents to Henry County, Iowa, in 1837.

On February 18, 1847, he married Mary J. Shuck, and in the spring of 1850, they started with an ox team for Oregon. They were six months crossing the plains, arrived in Yamhill county in the fall of 1850, and located on a donation land claim, where they have continuously resided until the time of his death, excepting for a period of ten years, which they spent on the Smith place in West Chehalem.

He is survived by his wife, Mary J. Heater, four daughters, namely, Mrs. Lizzie Winters, of Springbrook; Mrs. Mary Judy, of Amity; Mrs. Susan Coutts of Spokane, Washington; Mrs. Lucinda Putman, of Springbrook; four sons, namely, Charles M. Heater of Pullman, Washington; Albert, Ernest and Grant Heater, of Springbrook. He was the father of twelve children. He also has twenty-three grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

He died August 9th and was buried on Chehalem Mountain near his home, the Rev. Geo. C. Ritchey of the Christian church officiating at the funeral services.
