DEATH OF A CENTENARIAN

AUNT ELIZA STRUTHERS, WELL KNOWN COLORED RESIDENT, PASSES AWAY.

OVER ONE HUNDRED YEARS

Has Resided in This City Over Twenty Years, Coming Here from Hillsboro-Exact Age is Unknown.

Mrs. Eliza Struthers, an aged colored woman well known in this community, passed away this morning at the Peter Brown home on East street. The deceased, who was known far and near as "Aunt Eliza", was an old slave, and it is claimed that at the time of her death she was at least 120 years of age. Mr. E.N. Jordan says that when she left Hillsboro twenty yeas ago, it was an accepted fact among the inhabitants of that place that she was then over 100 years of age. For a time she lived in this city with the Gray sisters and for some few years past has made her home with the Peter Brown family on East street. The funeral will be held some time on Saturday, presumably from the African Baptist church, as Aunt Eliza was a member of that congregation, and the service will doubtless be attended by every colored person in the community.
