James Anderson

James Anderson, 78, of Stockport, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at home.

No service is planned. Burial will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery.

Visitation is 1-6 p.m. Sunday, with family receiving friends from 2-4 p.m. at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Zoe Anderson Education Fund.

Mr. Anderson was born Aug. 19, 1935, in rural Stockport, the son of Milo Henry and Mary Francis Campbell Anderson. He married Janice Niece May 21, 1955, in Hillsboro. The couple later divorced.

He received his early education at the Hickory Grove school and graduated from Stockport High School in 1953.

He farmed throughout his life.

In the early years, he was engaged in logging and drove a milk truck.

For more than 33 years, he was employed at GE in Burlington.

He was a volunteer fireman for the Hillsboro Fire Department.

He loved motorcycling and entered drag races in Keokuk and Eddyville.

He enjoyed snowmobiling, boating, water skiing, mowing grass for a number of places and flying airplanes.

He was an avid NASCAR fan and followed the races every weekend.

He was an auction enthusiast and a fan of Judge Judy.

Survivors include three daughters, Lynnette Sutter and spouse Jerry of Stockport, Kim Anderson of Hillsboro and Zoe Anderson of Stockport; three sons, Chris Anderson and spouse Donna of Arvada, Colo., Kevin Anderson of Lakewood, Colo., and Milo Anderson and spouse Lois of Union, Mo.; a special companion, Betty Wallace of Stockport; one brother, Robert Anderson of Stockport; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

he was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, William Anderson.
