MRS. CHRISTINE JOHNSON.

Mrs. Christine Johnson was born in Sweden December 24, 1823, and passed away Thursday, August 26, 1915, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mrs. and Mrs. Chas. A. Sandeen, at the ripe old age of 91 years, 8 months and two days, after a lingering illness during which time she was most tenderly cared for by her daughter and granddaughters.

In the year of 1869 she emigrated to this country with her four daughters, her husband having preceded his family two years before. In coming to this country they made their home in and around Mt. Pleasant, Ia. this happy union was blessed with four daughters, all having preceded their mother to the Great Beyond, with the exception of one, Mrs. Josephine, wife of Chas. A. Sandeen, of Swedesburg, Ia. the deceased children are: Mrs. Hannah Sanquist, Miss Tillie Johnson and Mrs. Stella Rugg. Her husband passed away January 2, 1880. The deceased was a life long member of the Lutheran church and at her death was the oldest living member of the Lutheran church at Swedesburg.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by one daughter, sixteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren besides a countless number of friends, old and young. For the last thirty years she has been most tenderly cared for by her daughter, everything being done that human hands could do to make her last days ones of comfort and she passed away at the above stated time as peaceful as a little child going to sleep. A short funeral service was held at her late home Sunday after noon at 2 o'clock, after which the remains were taken to the Swedish Lutheran church at Swedesburg, where a large concourse of people had gathered to pay their last sad rites to one they had learned to love and respect during their life time. The pastor, Rev. J. Eckholm had charge of the service, being assisted by the Revs. N. Ebb and Carl Rask, who were back from the east visiting relatives, all three speaking briefly, the first in the English language and the last two named in Swedish. The singing was furnished by the Lutheran choir, who sang very sweetly in both English and Swedish. The pallbearers were Chas. Hult, A.G. Lindeen, John Gladd, Homer Zingg, Frank Korf and Axel Norman. Interment was in the Swedish Lutheran cemetery. Peace to her memories.
