John W. Bloomquist

John W. Bloomquist, 94, of Birmingham died at 7:25 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham. Burial will be in Hillsboro Cemetery in Hillsboro.

Open visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Nursing Center activity.

Mr. Bloomquist was born April 15, 1908, in Lockridge, the son of Charles August and Christina H. Hansen Bloomquist. He married Ida Fern Boley April 9, 1947. She died Jan. 16, 1972. He married Ellen Retta Jones Oct. 15, 1982. She died March 30, 1986.

Mr. Bloomquist was a farmer and worked at John Deere Works in Ottumwa before his retirement. He had lived in Ottumwa and Fairfield prior to living in Birmingham. He was currently a resident of Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years.

Survivors include two stepdaughters, Jan Mathias and Charlotte Weaver, both of Birmingham.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers, Michael, Jessie, Carl, Alex, Bert, Earl, Robert and infants Leonard and Benjamin Bloomquist; seven sisters, Ida Payne, Mary Schroeder, Teckla Wells, Eva Speer and infants Christine, Ellen and Anna Bloomquist.
