Mrs. Sarah E. Duncan
Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Duncan, 81, resident of Hillsboro many years, died Saturday at the home of her son, Elbert Duncan, near Bonaparte. She has lived there about three years.
Mrs. Duncan was born at Strawberry Plains, Tenn., Aug. 23, 1865. She was married near LaCrew, Ia., to John M. Duncan in 1883. They lived in the community for several years. Mrs. Duncan was a member of the Hillsboro Methodist church. Surviving her are two sons; Elbert and Allen Duncan, the later of Ft. Madison, and a brother, John Thornton, and a sister, Mrs. Alice Wilson, both of Hillsboro. There are 11 grandchildren and 5 great-granddaughters. Two daughters, Cassie May Duncan and Mrs. Bessie Jane Cowell, died previously.
Funeral services were held in the Clay Grove church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Otto Wilson officiating, with burial in Clay Grove cemetery.
The pall bearers were grandsons, Adrian Cowell, Therald Cowell, Clayton Duncan, Raymond Duncan, John D. Duncan and Douglas Duncan.
Honorary pall bearers were nephews: Claude Thornton, David Thornton, Floyd Wilson, Harold Wilson, Dale Wilson, Jesse Thornton, Neal Thornton, Robert Duncan, Fred Duncan and Jack Duncan.
