June 28, 1940 – January 17, 2015

Karen Lucile Duncan, 74, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, January 17, 2015 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

She was born June 28, 1940 near [at] Bonaparte, the daughter of Percy and Mary Johnson Lowe. She graduated from Bonaparte High School. August 29, 1958 she married Lawrence Duncan in Bonaparte. He preceded her in death December 9, 2014.

For 30 years, she worked as a bookkeeper for Packers Sanitation. She was an avid sports fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones basketball teams and the St. Louis Cardinals. She was a voracious reader of books. Favorite pastimes included taking long walks, visiting casinos and socializing with friends.

Survivors include one daughter, Diane (Jerry Knipe) Duncan of Mt. Pleasant; one son, Alan (Kelly) Duncan of Boone; three grandchildren; and one brother, Richard (Nancy) Lowe of Kansas City, Missouri. Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, and one brother, Larry Lowe. A memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 22 at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, Mt. Pleasant, with Pastors Jerry and Virginia Knipe officiating. Inurnment will be in Bonaparte Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to Bonaparte Cemetery Association.

Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, Mt. Pleasant, is in charge of the arrangements.
