Gary Lee Watson, 76, of Mt. Pleasant died Friday, September 19, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
He was born August 31, 1938 in Iowa City, the son of Leland and Beulah Musser Watson. He married Sandra Marcelle McDonald on July 20, 1963 and she preceded him in death on April 3, 2009. He was a 1956 graduate of Lone Tree High School and received his BA from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, attended the University of Iowa, Iowa City and received his Computer Science degree from Northeast Missouri State.
Mr. Watson was a teacher and football coach at Baxter, Bondurant, Harmony and Knox County Schools. He also coached basketball and track. He loved football, puzzles, playing cards, listening and watching old radio and television, the board games Strategy and Clue, and golf.
Mr. Watson is survived by one son, David and his wife Stephanie Watson of Booneville, MO; two daughters, Lisa and her husband Justin Roby of Danville and Julie and her husband Rod McCollom of Newtown, MO; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor James Roth will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove South Cemetery, rural Danville. Visitation will begin after noon on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at the Chapel, with the family greeting friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A memorial has been established to Iowa Wesleyan College.
