"MRS. CATHERINE EMERSON DIED SATURDAY. . . .Catherine Wilson Emerson was the daughter of James and Elizabeth Harbour Wilson and was born in William County, Ohio, on Oct. 31, 1837. When four years of age, came with her parents to Jefferson County, Iowa, locating near Glasgow where she has since resided. On Sept. 19, 1858, at Glasgow, she was united in marriage to W. J. Emerson, who passed away at their home Sept. 23, 1889. Nine children, five of whom, three daughters and two sons, have preceded their mother in death. Surviving children: Mrs. Mary Metz of Glasgow, Mrs. Ida Merckens of Fairfield, Alonzo Emerson of Glasgow, and Mrs. Amy Masden of Fairfield. 17 grandchildren. After raising her own children, Mrs. Emerson took her daughter Ada's three daughters after the death of their mother and reared them as carefully as she did her own. Baptist church."
