C. C. Schlatter is Dead
One of Wayland’s Oldest Residents Called Tuesday NightC. C. Schlatter, one of the oldest residents of this community, died at his home here Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning at 2:30. He has been in failing health for more than a year, not sick, but just gradually giving away to the weight of years. He was 84 years of age last April. He has been a man of rugged health and tireless energy, but he was finally forced to submit to the infirmities of age.
Mr. Schlatter has been known in this locality for many years as Wayland’s veteran thresherman. He held the remarkable record of sixty successive seasons with his threshing machine in this locality. For many years, he operated a saw mill and also a feed mill on the site now occupied by the Schlatter garage.
He was a first class machinist and his delight was in working with the belts, wheels, and cogs of his numerous machines. His was an active, useful life and he will be kindly remembered by all who knew him.
The funeral of Mr. Schlatter will be held from the Mennonite church at 2:00 o’clock Friday afternoon, Interment will be made at North Hill Cemetery.
