Anna Conrad 11/17/1939

Miss Anna Conrad had lived on the farm where she died all her life. At age 74, she passed away Sunday night about 9:00 at the Conrad home 4 ½ miles ne of Wayland. She suffered a stroke 11/3 and had never regained consciousness. She was born 4/27/1865 on the same farm where she lived at the time of her death. She was the daughter of Christian and Barbara Earnest Conrad. She is survived by two brothers, Isaac with whom she lived, Samuel north of Wayland, four sisters, Mrs. Mary Torrance, Washington, Sarah Conrad of Wayland, Mrs. Judith Witmer and Mrs. Lydia Shindler both of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Services were held at the Eicher church Wednesday and were conducted by Rev. Delbert E. Welty. Burial was at Sommers Cemetery.

While in the community of Bern Indiana, she was converted and baptized and received into church fellowship on 5/26/1889 by S. F. Sprunger who was then pastor of the Mennonite church at that place. Later she transferred her membership to the Eicher Mennonite Church near Noble.

For the last 28 years she kept house for her brother Isaac on the old homestead. For some time she knew her health condition was serious and made preparations accordingly. However, she was able to attend to her household duties until Saturday morning November 4, when she failed to rise at her usual time and did not respond to her brother’s call. Upon investigation he found her on her bed of repose in a seemingly unconscious state having suffered a paralytic stroke in the early hours of the morning. She was left speechless and was never again able to greet the members of her family and neighbors who came to her bedside. She passed away Sunday evening at 9:00, 11/12/1939 at the age of 74 years, 6 m and 15 d.

Her parents and brother Joe preceded her in death. She is survived by Ms. Sarah, Isaac, and Samuel of Wayland, Lydia wife of Samuel Shindler of Ft. Wayne, 10 nieces and 6 nephews and many other relatives and friends to mourn their loss
