Funeral services for B. Max Bates, 99, were held Saturday, October 23,1993 at 10 A.M. at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Tuesday, October, 19, 1993. Mr. Bates, a lifetime resident of Trenton passed away at 5:30 P.M. at the Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mt. Pleasant where he had resided the past three months.

Officiant for the service was Rev. Lloyd Latta, pastor of the Trenton United Methodist Church. Music was by organist Mrs. David Heaton. Casketbearers were David L. Bates, Kenneth H. Bates, Robert H. Bates, Roger M.Bates, Willaim Erickson, Scott W. Messer, Tim A. Messer, Dan K. Rogers, David B. Rogers, John W. Rogers, and Bobby Siberts.

Interment with full military rites in charge of William Carpenter, Sr.,Commander, were held at the Green Mound Cemetery west of Trenton. Memorials have been established to the Trenton United Methodist Church and Green Mound Cemetery.

Mr. Bates was born September 18, 1894 near Trenton, the son of Isaac C. and Anna Miller Bates. On December 17, 1919 at Mt. Pleasant, he married Anna M. Wilson who survives. He was a farmer and trucker and a member of the Trenton United Methodist Church. On Thursday, October 21, following his death, he received the 75th Anniversary, World War I Commemorative Medal, from the Robert R. McCormic Tribune Foundation. A charter member of the Ackles-Roberts Post of the American Legion, Trenton, and in 1968, was honored as one of the oldest members of the American Legion in the State of Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Anna, who also resides at Pleasant Manor Care Center, Mt. Pleasant; two daughter, Judith A. Messer, Wayland and Olive Kay Rogers, Mt. Pleasant; one son, Donald H. of Beaumont, Texas, 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Robert; four sisters, Edith Carper, Etta Carper, Laura Lyons, Elsie Sater, and a brother, Dillon Bates.
