OBITUARY:

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR ISAAC BATES

Following a prayer at the Cookes Funeral Home at 1:20, the memorial service for Isaac Bates was held at Finley Chapel Saturday afternoon at 2:00. Dr. George O. Hunt was assisted by Rev. Virgil Henderson. Mrs. Will McCjaran and Mrs. Max Stein sang and Mrs. Dan Winter played the piano. Pallbearers were Kenneth Miller, Merrill Kerr, Don Carper, Howard Sater, Kendig Rogers, and _________ Bates. Burial was in the Finley cemetery.

Isaac Christian Bates, son of Bernard and Beulah Jay Bates was born June 25, 1858 in the Richwood community of Henry County and departed from this life on Christmas Eve, 1947 at Mt. Pleasant after several weeks of declining health. When three years of age, he went with his family to a farm three miles east of Trenton where he grew to manhood. Until his retirement in 1932, he gave all of his years to the occupation of farming.

On December 22, 1881, Mr. Bates married Anna Miller. To this union were born six children, five of whom survive: Mrs. Harry Carper, Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. J. I. Sater, Chicago, Illinois; Mrs. Laura Lyon, Clinton; Dillon and Max, both of Mt. Pleasant. One daughter, Etta Mae Carper, preceded her father in death. Other survivors are 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Bates passed away June 8, 1908 and in April, 1910, Mr. Bates married Mrs. Lillie Leoffler, who preceded him in death January 28, 1932. The years of his retirement were spent with his children, the last seven with his daughter, Mrs. Carper.
